Overview

The MD/PhD combined degree program generally takes approximately 7 to 8 years to complete. The PhD thesis is usually defended during the fifth or sixth year, while the MD is awarded upon graduation from the program. What follows is a description of the course of study on a year-by-year basis.

The Case Clinical and Translational Scientist Training Program (CTSTP), a branch of the MSTP launched in 2007, is designed to prepare physician scientists for a career in clinical and translational research.

For more information about the Case MSTP, download the MSTP Student Guidelines(Acrobat PDF). This manual has been developed to provide guidelines for students and mentors. It includes information about the general program structure and MSTP activities, as well as guidelines for the academic part of the program.

You may also wish to read some general information about MD-PhD dual degree training from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
